Pumpkin Palooza Is Back September 20, 2010

St. Petersburg's Pumpkin PaloozaFor the seventh year in a row, the St. Petersburg Junior Woman’s Club is hosting the fall family festival Pumpkin Palooza.  This year’s event will be held on October 2nd, from 11am to 5pm.  What a great activity for the family to kick off the Halloween season near your St. Petersburg home!  As always, admission to the event is free for the whole family.  As in years past, the event will feature its well known pumpkin patch along with all sorts of kids games and crafts, local vendors, live performances, and more.  While the event is free, tickets must be purchased to enjoy the food and games.  For those who would like to visit, Pumpkin Palooza will be held at the St. Petersburg Woman’s Club located at 40 Snell Isle Boulevard NE.  All proceeds will benefit SPJWC’s charitable projects.  For more information, please visit the organization’s website at www.spjwc.org.

Swim With The Fishes September 16, 2010

The Florida Aquarium's 'Swim With The Fishes' Since the Florida Aquarium made its home in Tampa, they’ve always had great events and exhibits available for both area residents and tourists.  One of the latest options is ‘Swim with the Fishes’, an in-water reef adventure for visitors 6 and older.  Participants have a chance to view a coral reef reminiscent of the Florida Keys without being a certified SCUBA diver.  While taking a swim with the fishes, you’ll be provided with a small SCUBA tank, regulator, and a flotation device which keeps you on the surface.  It allows visitors to enjoy a whole new perspective of the gorgeous 1/2 million gallon tank, which holds about 2,300 fish.  The cost for this program is $85 per person (members get a $10 discount), which includes the cost of admission to the aquarium.  All you need to bring is a bathing suit, towel, and your sense of adventure!  Instead of spending Saturday inside your Tampa home, why not head to the aquarium and give it a try?

For those who are certified SCUBA divers, the aquarium offers a special opportunity to dive with sharks!  If you’re certified, age 15 or older, and brave, you can come face-to-face with live sharks!  The aquarium provides all the gear needed for your dive in Shark Bay.  For more information on either one of these great opportunities visit their website, www.flaquarium.org.

Enjoy Music & Movies in the Park!

Movies in the park in St. PetersburgFor those who call St. Petersburg home, there will be four great opportunities to have a a wonderful evening enjoying music & movies in North Straub Park during the month of October.  Visitors to the park on these special Thursday nights will enjoy free outdoor music and movies right along the waterfront.  The events are part of the Downtown St. Petersburg Waterfront Parks Centennial.    The centennial celebration has been going on throughout 2010, and was organized to honor our city’s early civic leaders decisions in placing parks for us to enjoy along the waterfront.  Centennial celebration events have had something for everyone – from youngsters to the young at heart.

The fun October evenings will begin at dusk.  The best of Florida’s folk musicians will start playing at 6:30, followed by a movie at 7:30 as the sun sets.  What a great way to spend an evening, and it’s free!  Plus….your favorite Saturday Morning Market vendors will be on hand will plenty of options for food and beverages.   So, get there early before all the good seats are gone, and don’t forget your chairs and blankets.

St. Petersburg Saturday Morning MarketOnly a few more weeks left until the St. Petersburg Saturday Morning Market returns!  We’ve all been waiting for the summer heat to cool off a bit, and now that it’s begun to simmer down the market is back on the schedule.  Since opening for the first time in 2002, the market has enjoyed great success and is visited by thousands who call St. Petersburg home.

Starting on October 2nd, the Saturday Morning Markets returns to the Al Lang Stadium parking lot, located at 1st Avene S & 1st Street in St. Petersburg on the waterfront.  As always, plenty of fresh produce will be on hand from local farmers as well as lots of organic fruits & vegetables.  Plus, gourmet baked goods, prepared foods, handcrafted items & gifts, plants, flowers, and more!
